A major manufacturer of electrical accessories, plugs, sockets and switches upgraded the control system on their existing endurance test system extending asset life for minimal capital investment.
In common with many legacy test systems whilst the majority of the system hardware was still reliable the control software was outdated and no longer supportable. Some items of hardware including analogue scanner and digital interface units were obsolete and suitable replacement equipment was sourced.
Exhaust Valve End of Line Test Diesel engine vehicles are equipped with specialized valves. EPM valves act as exhaust brakes by controlling back pressure into the engine. EGR valves reduce emissions by re-circulating exhaust gasses.
To perform end of line test on a new range of valves the manufacturer wanted to replace the existing test rigs. The test rigs used high volume air pressure to replicate engine operating conditions. This required a large air reservoir and compressor installation that was expensive to operate and occupied a large area of the manufacturing site.
New test rigs that use a low volume pneumatic system were designed. The mechanical assembly of the rigs was carried out by the customer. Tascomp developed the PC based control and monitoring system.
